A Proposal to Project in Scope
- a Film
- by Viktoria Schmid
- Description (english) The latest in director Schmid’s delicately fascinating ‚ “Proposals” series asks us to reconsider the rectangle upon which our cinematic delights are projected. Filmed on 35-mm over the course of one day, surrounded by dunes, sea and forests on the Lithuanian coast, Schmid reconfigures the screen as a blank canvas upon which sunlight, wind, and shadow create an alluring new form of cinematic art. (Neil Young – Vienna Shorts) The 35mm CinemaScope format is pre-eminently suited to landscapes. Viktoria Schmid puts the surroundings out of frame, turning the screen into a sculpture in the dunes. Widescreen emptiness becomes a projection surface for an interplay between light and shadow, sun and trees. (IFFR)
