I Am Not There
- a Film
- by Markus Maicher
- Description (english) Video8 fragments of family recordings of a lost past are haunting the present, a here and now that is already past and yonder. A day as a child and a day as an adult at a castle, in-between lie thirty years, the look through the viewfinder onto the empty spaces of the present collapse with the look of the father through the viewfinder then and there. The instability of the film’s manual development process hints at the instability of the spatial and temporal coordinates of our existence, the absence of a negative at the transience of memory.
