    I asked three women: “When will the wind come up?” And, like the Magi, they reached out their hands which carried three gifts. Family movies from the 1940s. A book of poems. A musical piece. I accepted each gift and placed them all on my desk. They exuded a heady scent of peat and salt. Then I travelled back down to the roots, to meet the women’s voices.

    À trois femmes, j’ai demandé : « à quelle heure arrive le vent ? » Et dans leurs mains, chargées comme les rois mages, elles me tendent trois présents. Des films amateurs des années 1940. Un recueil de poèmes. Un morceau de musique. J’ai accepté chaque cadeau et je les ai posés sur ma table. Ils dégageaient une forte odeur de terre et de sel. Alors, je suis retourné voyager dans les racines, à la rencontre de leurs paroles.
