  • Description (english)

The Islands is an experimental documentary which consists of mundane objects and 35mm film photographs I took in three islands: Inishimore (Ireland), Staten Island (United States) and Tsushima Island (Japan). I’ve been traveling to many places, but I never feel that belong to any of them, even my country Taiwan. Taiwan is an island, which has changed hands many times in its 500 year history. Till now, Taiwanese struggles with their identity debates. Floating between nations and identity complex, I travel to islands; perhaps, to catch a glimpse of homeland. By constructing, re-filming and hand animating the photographs and mundane objects, I interpret history as a contemporary process. Island is no more a geographical term, but a state of mind, in which I plant the root of my very own. **The Islands is also part of a film installation in which contains the film itself and five video sculptures.
