Created in the Spring of 2024, Samguri Film Lab is a photochemical lab based in Gangjeong Village, a village in Jeju Island, Korea that has a history of activism against US militarized presence. The lab is equipped to process color and black & white 16mm film and houses a photo enlarger, 16mm projectors, splicers, and lomo tanks.
Samguri focuses specifically towards cheap and sustainable methods of working with film. Working with alternative photo developers and DIY hand cranked pinhole cameras, Samguri’s aims are to work directly with the materials realities of the analog medium.
