Iris Film Collective is an itinerant Vancouver-based group of independent artists creating, exhibiting and touring film-based works—single channel, expanded, sculptural, installation—with the goal of increasing the visibility and accessibility of experimental media art.
Currently artists-in-residence with the city’s Fieldhouse Program, we have converted a former city park caretaker’s cottage into a studio for processing, editing, and screening Super 8mm and 16mm film. Though barely bigger than a hotel room, the space includes a small darkroom, 16mm flatbed editing table, print storage, and soon-to-be operational Mauer 16mm optical sound camera.
Our activities include our own personal practices as well as public workshops and city-wide programming. Since our founding in 2014, we have hosted artists and collectives from across Canada and the world. We have had a long-running relationship with Cineworks to co-produce workshops, and through our affiliation with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation we also offer workshops and equipment to the local community.
