Strobostrop is an artist-run film lab based in Brussels founded by Dominika Kováčová and Kilhan Wittock.
Born from a shared desire to create space for hands-on experimentation with analog film, Strobostrop embraces every stage of the process, from shooting and developing to editing and projection. The lab offers a place for artists to engage with film in an artisanal, tactile way, exploring the imperfections and possibilities of the medium.
Rooted in Dominika and Kilhan’s own practice, which revolves around the 16mm format and its expressive limits, Strobostrop extends their exploration of film as both material and performance, bridging traditional filmmaking with expanded cinema.
They explore the magic of live imagery through 16mm projectors, Super 8, and liquid light shows. In their performances, light becomes matter: painted, scratched, layered onto living film. More than just a projection, it’s a cinematic experience that seeks to reveal the invisible.
In addition, Strobostrop offers services including the digitization of formats up to 16mm (9.5mm, Super 8, 8mm, and 16mm). Equipment rental is also available for artists working with analog film from shooting and development to post-production. Feel free to get in touch with any questions.
