Founded with an intention of exploring possible cinematic languages based on (non)photochemical films, as well as with film and without film, with(out) images, Megalab oscillates between undefined spaces within artist communities in Rio de Janeiro. Workshops, screenings and researches are principal objectives proposed in collective environment. Our partners include; Dobra Festival de Cinema Experimental(Rio de Janeiro), Pancinema Experimental(Curitiba), Inflamável(Florianópolis), Tropigalpão(Rio de Janeiro), Casa Sol(Rio de Janeiro), Bienal de Imagen en Movimiento(Buenos Aires, Argentina), Mientras Tanto CINE(Montevideo, Uruguay), Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art Cinemateca and Rio de Janeiro State University Photography Lab, where most workshops take place. Since 2019, we have offered workshops on phytogram, eco-process development, building pinhole camera out of matchbox for 16mm film, besides screenings of super 8 films made by artists from various corners of Brazil. This year, we are bringing the program of super 8 films from Brazil to the8fest, a festival dedicated to small-gauge films in Toronto, Canada. We believe that local and trans-frontier(geographical/social/disciplines) interactions are fundamental in encouraging a network of artists working in celluloid format. Basic equipments such as projectors(super 8, 16mm, 35mm slide), cameras(super 8, 16mm, still) and editing instruments are available upon request.
